Effective with the release of NI-DAQ 5.0, you can query any device for its serial number by using the NI-DAQ function Get_DAQ_Device_Info with a parameter type of ND_DEVICE_SERIAL_NUMBER (see the "nidaqcns.h" NI-DAQ header file for the exact value). Devices which do not have serial numbers will return a serial number of 0 and a status of noError.

While this parameter type is not exported through the "Get DAQ Device Information" VI in LabVIEW as of NI-DAQ 6.1, you can use the Call Library Function to invoke the Get_DAQ_Device_Info function from the NI-DAQ shared library or DLL installed on your machine.

Attached are three separate examples to accomplish this under Windows or Macintosh with different versions of LabVIEW.
