The NI Virtual Instrument Simulator responds to the following commands:
SENS:DATA?
MEAS:DC?
*IDN?
*TST?
*The NI Virtual Instrument Simulator requires a line feed termination character and will disregard any commands sent to it unless this character is appended to the end of the command string.
The default settings for the serial port use COM 2 with 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, and no parity. If your system does not match these settings they can be changed in the VISA Serial Initialization.vi.
To run the NI Virtual Instrument Simulator:
1. Connect another serial equipped device to the com port on your machine.
2. Run the VI and select the com port used in step one from the front panel.
3. Enable the simulator by flipping the power control "ON" on the front panel.
4. Send serial commands that the device responds to and power "OFF" the simulator when finished.
*A serial crossover cable can be connected from one com port to another on the same machine in order to send serial commands from another VI running on the current machine.
