Using the Analog Trigger Circuitry Output as an External Signal

On data acquisition (DAQ) devices that support analog triggering, there is an analog trigger circuit that has an active-high digital signal output when specified analog conditions are met. This signal, Analog Trigger Circuit Output (ATCOUT), is internally used by the DAQ-STC, which is counter/timer control chip on E Series hardware. Counter operations can be configured to utilize this signal, but it is not available as an external signal on the DAQ device, so ATCOUT cannot be directly routed to one of the PFI pins. By configuring one of the counters to use ATCOUT as a gate or source input and routing that gate or counter to a PFI pin, ATCOUT can be indirectly exposed as a digital output. This example, ATCOUT Viewer.vi, illustrates how this can be done. Notice that if you configure counter 0 to use ATCOUT as its gate or source, you can also use Route Signal.vi to route ATCOUT to the RTSI bus from there.

This example also shows how the analog trigger settings affect the relationship between the AI triggering signal and ATCOUT during an acquisition. The two attached screenshots give an example of how the Level and Window specifications affect the analog triggering function.
