Writing to a File from a Serial Port

Filename: serial_to_disc.vi
Requirements: View

This VI reads data from a serial port. The user inputs the port number and the number of bytes to read at a time. The VI then reads from the serial port and streams that data to a file. The user is prompted for the file name when the VI is first ran. The VI runs until the stop button is pressed, or there are no bytes read at the serial port.

This VI is intended as a quick easy way to stream large amounts of serial data to a file.

updated to version 8.6
can we please have this updated to version 8.6/9.0

I just installed LabVIEW v.8.5 on my PC, which is unable to read "serial_to_disc.vi" because the version is too old. Any suggestions as to how I could open this file? Or is there an alternative VI which performs the same function suitable for newer versions of LabVIEW?

Problem in RS422 data file
I am receving data from data recorder, when we store in file, it stores in character format then for comapring these values, I have to convert it to hex format, as cahracter by character and it takes lot of time. How we can store it directly in Hex Format, so there may not need to convert it and directly we can extract values from data frame. Waiting for reply Regards, Jitendra
