This example shows how to use Find Straight Edges in NI Vision. Find Straight Edges finds lines (or straight edges) within a search region. Find Straight Edges is a precursor function to many of the gauging and inspection tasks. For example, the location of the straight edges found within a region that encloses an object can interpreted as the boundaries of the object whose dimensions have to be measured for a gauging application or the presence of a crack in the surface of an object for an inspection application.

This example requires LabVIEW and is included with the Vision Development Module. Download the LabVIEW Evaluation and the Vision Development Module Evaluation to try this example. After installing the software, open LabVIEW and navigate to Help » Find Examples... » Toolkits and Modules.
