Piezoelectric Microphone
Overview
Piezoelectric microphones contain ceramic or quartz crystals linked with a diaphragm or directly exposed to acoustic waves. Stresses in the crystals, resulting from a sound field, generate an output proportional to the acoustic pressure. Many designs incorporate a built-in preamplifier next to the crystal. This arrangement reduces the electrical noise and output impedance.
