Strain Gage Tachometer
Overview
A strain-gage tachometer consists of a beam with bonded strain gages. The beam is in contact with a cam or with an eccentric disk rotating with the shaft whose speed is measured. The number of deflections of the beam per unit of time is proportional to the speed. Every deflection of the beam causes a change in the resistance of the gages, which can generate an electrical signal.
Strain-gage tachometer. w = angular speed, 1 = beam, 2 and 3 = bonded strain gages, 4 = eccentric disk.
