Vibrating Element Accelerometer
Overview
A vibrating-element accelerometer contains a seismic mass supported by prestressed wires made to vibrate at their natural frequency by an electromagnetic driving system. When the acceleration develops force along the wires, their frequency of vibration is changed, producing the signal correlated with the acceleration.
Vibrating-element accelerometer. a = acceleration, 1 = seismic mass, 2 and 3 = vibrating wire, 4 and 5 = pickup coils, 6 and 7 = driving electrical magnet, 8 = damper, 9 = case.
