In a world of rapidly evolving technology products and standards, the serial interface has stood the test of time. While serial ports are rapidly disappearing from PCs, RS232 remains a standard for simple, low-cost interfacing to instruments, embedded devices, and industrial sensors and actuators.

The new NI PCI-8430/16 and NI PXI-8430/16 RS232 serial interfaces add 16 high-performance native COM ports to any Windows or NI LabVIEW Real-Time PC or PXI system. High-speed DMA transfer technology combined with flexible baud rates up to 1 Mb/s make the NI 8430/16 devices an ideal solution for any high-density, high-performance serial interface application.

New serial interfaces from National Instruments add 16 high-performance native COM ports to any Windows or LabVIEW Real-Time PC or PXI system.

DMA transfer technology reduces CPU usage by up to 50 percent by taking advantage of hardware acceleration to move data directly from the NI 8430 devices to system memory, bypassing the CPU and leaving more CPU time for other tasks such as interpreting and responding to serial bus data.

Traditional PC serial ports are limited to a small set of standard baud rates. With the NI 8430/16 devices, you can obtain any baud rate up to 1 Mb/s for connectivity to specialty devices found in embedded, military, medical, and industrial applications.
