electrical noise floor
The noise level due to the inherent noise in a circuit with no signal connected to the input.
When the noise floor is measured as a function of frequency, it is usually normalized to 1 Hz bandwidth, and is given as the V2/Hz or voltage per square root of Hz, commonly called volts per root Hertz.
