dynamometer
An instrument that provides rotational resistance to a unit under test. Typically used to load engines and determine performance characteristics in the automotive industry. Dynamometers may either drive the unit under test or absorb its energy, or both. A universal dynamometer both drives and absorbs power to the UUT.
