sound intensity probe
An acoustical sensor, usually consisting of two closely spaced microphones, for the detection of sound intensity. A computer or dedicated circuitry calculates the sound velocity as the difference between the two pressure signals, corrected for the air density and microphone spacing, and then multiplies this velocity by the average sound pressure from the two microphones, thus giving the sound intensity.
