Overview

If you are using LabVIEW Datalogging and Supervisory Control (DSC) module or Lookout to log historical data, Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) provides a simple interface to view this data. MAX not only has the capability to view historical data on a local machine but can also view a database on a remote machine. This document will help you connect the Historical Data viewer in MAX to the database of the remote machine.

Please Note: The NI Service Manager and all Services need to be running on the remote and local machines.

Viewing the Remote Database

1. Launch Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX).

2. Right-click on the Historical Data folder in MAX and select Create New.

3. Select Citadel Database and click Next.

4. Click the Browse button to locate the remote computer on the network.

5. Type in the Path to the database on the remote machine. This Path must be the full path to the database even if the directory is shared in Microsoft Windows Network Neighborhood.
Please Note: You will not be able to browse to this database if it is on a remote computer. This Browse button can only be used to locate a database on your local computer.

6. Name the database view or accept the default name provided by MAX.

7. Click the Finish button.

8. At this point, you will see a new entry under the Historical Data folder in MAX. Click on this entry and you will see the trace names listed under the Traces section. Other information about the database is also available in the properties on the far right of the MAX screen (not shown).

9. Right-click on the database entry under the Historical Data folder in MAX and select New View>>Trace. This will create a display of the data.

10. Select the traces to view in the Trace Attributes tab by clicking on the Add new traces button.

11. Select the Display tab to view the data in the Historical Database.
Please Note: You may have to adjust the range of the Y-axis and use the Zoom tools to view the data. These tools are available in the toolbar on the Display tab.
