A weighting
A frequency-dependent weighting of sound signals, which has the greatest sensitivity in the 1 kHz to 5 kHz range -- corresponding to the range of the greatest sensitivity of the human ear. A weighting is the most common frequency weighting used for sound-level meters. The B and C weightings have similar responses to the mid-frequency range, but have greater sensitivity at the lower frequencies. The B and C weightings were originally meant to mimic the behavior of the ear at higher sound levels, but in practice, the A weighting has been the most widely used network.
