A mode of a spectrum analyzer or oscilloscope where the measurement is continuously being repeated by either sweeping over the same frequency range (for a spectrum analyzer) or time base (for an oscilloscope).

Modern FFT-based spectrum analyzers do not sweep across a frequency range, but process all frequencies at the same time.
