NI-DAQ OPC Server Troubleshooting Wizard: Known Issues

Overview

This section of the troubleshooting wizard covers known issues with NI-DAQ and the DAQ OPC Server.

Adding a Group to NI-DAQ OPC Server Generates "Unspecified Error"

When adding a group to the DAQ OPC Server using the OPC wizard, you receive either an:

"Unspecified Error"

or

"Failed with status 800703e6. Unable to read status description from the server!"

This happens primarily when you have duplicate channels, meaning two virtual channels point to the same physical channel. This issue is caused by multiple channel acquisition. In the MAX test panels, you are reading one channel at a time. In OPC, if there are multiple tags in the system, you scan all the tags simultaneously.

See if the same behavior can be duplicated by scanning multiple channels in LabVIEW by using the Virtual Channels Test (AI) VI, linked below.

If you receive error -10007 from this VI, you are likely to have two virtual channels configured for the same physical channel. Locate the virtual channels in MAX and correct the duplication. Refer to the DAQ documentation and/or to the Data Acquisition Troubleshooting web resources for more information.

Error Dialog, "nidopcmg.dll Failed To Initialize" Is Generated

This error message appears if the DAQ OPC Server is already running in the background. Open the Windows Task Manager and see if the nidaqopc.exe process is running. Terminate the process and try connecting again. Under normal circumstances, the client should launch and shut down the server. If for some reason the server does not shut down correctly, it stays launched in the background and causes this error to happen. If this problem persists, contact National Instruments Technical Support.
