Procedure for Creating VRML output file from CAD geometry in Pro/E

In this example we will use Pro/E Mechanica to export a “Direct VRML” that will be suitable for use with DIAdem INSIGHT. To do this export, we will need to perform an analysis on the model we are converting. To do so, material property, constraints, and loads must be set - however these do not have to be meaningful values since we only want the VRML export and not the analysis results.

1. Start Pro/E Mechanica by going to Applications » Mechanica.

2. Select Structure for the Model Type.

3. Define part material (anything will work – does not have to be correct) by going to Materials...

4. Add a constraint to a surface by going to Insert » Displacement Constraint...

5. Add a “0” pressure load to the same surface going to Insert » Pressure Load... and entering "0" for the value.

7. Create an analysis by going to Analysis » Mechanica Analyses/Studies...

8. Create a new static analysis with default settings and run the analysis

9. Open the results window by going to Analysis » Results...

If your model was free of multiple surfaces you may now use it in INSIGHT. However if multiple surfaces still exist on the model you will need to use 3rd party software such as AccuTrans to clean the model by merging surfaces and vertices. If a model has multiple surfaces it will appear white when initially loaded in INSIGHT instead of the standard light blue.
