Overview

Wireless PANs (WPANs) consist of short-range, low data-rate communication between wireless devices. Well-known examples of WPANs include Bluetooth (802.15.3) and ZigBee (802.15.4). Bluetooth is already a popular technology employed in several consumer electronics devices for quick transfer of small amounts of data. ZigBee is a low-rate WPAN standard that is now being used more widely for such applications as sensor networks, remote control, and home/building automation. ZigBee networks are both self-forming and self-healing, with a central ‘PAN coordinator’ device overseeing the entry and exit of devices in and out of the network. Devices built on 802.15.4 standards are also extremely power-conservative, being able to last months and even years on the same set of batteries.

ZigBee Low Rate PHY Signal Analysis Solution

SeaSolve's WiPAN LVSA Signal Analysis solution is designed to capture, measure and analyze IEEE 802.15.4 compliant signals in the 2.4 GHz ISM band. The Analyzer allows the user to perform advanced real-time analysis of transmitter design by providing various RF and Baseband Measurements. It seamlessly integrates with NI PXI RFSA 5660 with definable span and trigger levels. RF measurements include Power Spectral Density (PSD), Power in Band, Adjacent Channel Power (Power in upper band and lower band), and occupied bandwidth. Baseband measurements yield an IQ plot (time domain), Constellation diagram, Eye Diagram, CCDF curve, Data bits plot, and Error Vector Magnitude (EVM). The Analyzer is capable of capturing signals, performing symbol synchronization, frequency synchronization, and neutralizing front end non-idealities. The receiver performs EVM calculations as per standard specifications.

ZigBee Low Rate PHY+MAC Signal Generation Solution

SeaSolve's WiPAN LVSG signal generation solution is designed to generate IEEE 802.15.4 compliant signals in the 2450 MHz ISM band. WiPAN LVSG seamlessly integrates with the NI PXI RFSG 5670 vector signal generator. WiPAN LVSG gives full control over PHY and MAC parameters and facilitates the user to define a delay between packets with options to save and load MPDU and payload configurations (MSDU) to/from a file.

To save time and speed up the development process, WiPAN LVSG facilitates the generation of frames by customizing the MAC settings or building a sequence of frames. Customizing MAC settings can be done in three flexible options (Load MPDU data, Advanced Configuration, or Default settings). Sequences of varying frames can also be generated.

WiPAN LVSG allows modeling and viewing of various impairments for simulation purposes and facilitates the viewing of key measurements with IQ plots, Eye Diagrams, Constellation diagrams (before and after pulse shaping), and a Power Spectral Density Plot.

SeaSolve Software

SeaSolve develops test and measurement solutions for various wireless devices covering standards such as IEEE 802.11 (WLANs), 802.15.4 (WPANs/ZigBee), and 802.16 (WiMAX). SeaSolve’s offers solutions that perform RF and baseband testing of the PHY layer, in addition to data generation and analysis at the MAC layer. This approach of testing the first two layers of a wireless device’s functionality verifies the foundation transmitter/receiver characteristics of that device. Wireless device OEMs, chip manufacturers, and IP vendors can use these solutions to ensure that their fundamentals of standard-conformance and interoperability are in place before they submit their designs to certification test-houses.
