Instructions for Cleaning a VRML Model for DIAdem-INSIGHT
One of the difficulties when creating or converting VRML models for use in displaying channel data on a 3D model in DIAdem-INSIGHT is having multiple surfaces or vertices on a single model. INSIGHT is not able to accurately map data onto models that include multiple surfaces, displaying the model in white rather than in the standard light blue.

While some CAD modeling packages have tools to remove multiple surfaces they are usually clumsy to use and not very straightforward. The purpose of this tutorial is to show how to use a 3rd party tool called AccuTrans 3DTM to remove multiple surfaces and vertices from a VRML model created from Pro/E Mechanica.
AccuTrans 3DTM is an object conversion tool available from MicroMouse Productions© and is available for a 30-day evaluation from this site. Once you have downloaded and installed the software, you are now ready to load the model into AccuTrans 3DTM and remove surfaces from the model.
To load the VRML file, open AccuTrans 3D and select File » Open... and select the VRML file on your hard drive.
Once the file has loaded, click the Merge Data button and in the dialog box leave all values in the default state and select OK.
Now that the vertices and egdes have been merged, you can now save the edited model by going to File » Save As..., entering the new name of the file and making sure VRML 2.0 is selected for the Save as type.
Your VRML file when loaded into INSIGHT should now appear light blue as shown in Figure 2 in the beginning of this tutorial. For additional information on INSIGHT and creating VRML files from your CAD file, visit ni.com/insight.
