Overview

Averna is a provider of innovative solutions for test and embedded systems. Averna's customers are Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM), Electronic Manufacturing Service providers (EMS), as well as small and medium-sized high technology businesses.

The vertical markets in which Averna is active include the Aerospace, Automotive, Consumer Electronics, Defense, Industrial, Telecommunications (including Optoelectronics & Photonics) and Transport sectors. With its in-depth expertise in designing, developing and integrating software and hardware systems, Averna is well positioned to provide its customers with high-quality products, turnkey systems and engineering services.

Application Areas

Averna provides a ready to run solution for RF Signal Record & Playback.  The Averna RF Signal Record & Playback system is capable of generating almost every RF standard on the market today.  These are a few application areas which have been specifically designed and tested by Averna:

  • GPS Navigation
  • UHF/VHF
  • PSK, QPSK & QAM Digital data
  • SATCOM
  • IBOC – DAB Radio
  • ATSC digital television
  • Analog Video Broadcast
  • AM/FM
  • ISDB
  • Radar
  • TMC, VICS
  • PCS & Cellular telephone
  • Wi-Fi
  • WLAN
  • WiMAX Networks

Architecture

The system is built on an 8-slots PXI chassis controlled by a laptop. This unit can be rack mounted or used on a test bench in a stand-alone fashion. It occupies 4 Rack Units if configured in a test and measurement cabinet apparatus. The system is modular and can be purchased as Record only, Playback only or Record & Playback together. The RF is recorded and played back from the PXI chassis while the audio, video and NMEA messages are recorded by the laptop controlling the PXI chassis. No laptop is required to just playback the RF signal, simply connect a monitor, mouse and keyboard to the PXI chassis. Once the RF and audio signals have been recorded, they are very easy to reproduce back in the laboratory.

Specifications

As opposed to other solutions on the market, which use limited proprietary data storage drives, Averna hardware is not limited in terms of storage capacity. For sampling rates with 4 MHz of bandwidth or less, the available space on the internal C:\ disk drive of the PXI 810X controller can be used. For extra capacity or sampling rates above 4 MHz, an external 320 GB Serial ATA ( SATA ) drive can be connected to the PCI express interface of the PXI 810X controller. If additional storage beyond 320 Gigabytes is need, 5000 Gigabytes of storage can be configured in parallel to make longer recordings. Third party hard drives can be purchased independently from Averna.
