Overview

When it comes to product reliability, National Instruments (NI) is dedicated to assuring that our products exceed your expectations. From initial design to your system design and deployment, we go to great lengths to assure your system’s success.

Reliability defined: “An attribute of any system that consistently produces the same results, preferably meeting or exceeding its specifications.”

Source:  "reliability." The Free On-line Dictionary of Computing. Denis Howe. 03 Jan. 2007.

Your success is highly dependent on the reliability of the system and the response you receive from your vendor meeting or exceeding your expectations. The reliability of your system is composed of two components: excellent product quality and great system design. Response includes technical support and services such as calibration and repair. The combination of these combined factors exceeding your expectations for system availability (up-time) will insure your system success. Below you will find information about these key components and resources to assist you with your system.

Product Quality

Product Certification - National Instruments products comply with the applicable International requirements for product safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), hazardous locations, marine, RoHS, and quality. Look up the certification for National Instruments products on this website dedicated to product certification.

RoHS Information - National Instruments is committed to releasing environmentally friendly products as part of the NI Hazardous Substance Reduction initiative. This NI initiative is a voluntary program modeled after the European Union Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive, which restricts the use of harmful substances such as lead, mercury, and cadmium in new equipment.

System Design

Best Practices for Building and Maintaining PXI Systems - PXI products from National Instruments are designed, manufactured, and tested with the goal of delivering the highest quality products for the most demanding applications. This is evident when you examine both the product's quality and reliability specifications and the tens of thousands of systems that have been deployed into the most demanding applications around the world. However, all electronic devices have some failure rate. This white paper presents best practices to follow during assembly, deployment, and maintenance to minimize the chance of such a failure.  Additionally, if you do experience a failure, the techniques discussed will minimize the downtime of your systems.

Designing High Availability Systems with CompactRIO and Compact FieldPoint -The CompactRIO and Compact FieldPoint products from National Instruments (NI) are designed, manufactured, and tested with the goal of delivering the highest quality products for High Availability Applications. However, all electronic devices have some failure rate. This white paper presents best practices to follow during assembly, deployment, and maintenance to minimize the chance of such a failure.  Additionally, if you do experience a failure, the techniques discussed will minimize the downtime of your embedded systems.

High Availability Products

NI System Monitor  - NI System Monitor version 1.0 (FREE download) allows you to monitor the operating parameters of PXI Express chassis/controllers. Follow the link to find out more about this tool.

Extended Temp Hard Drive  - National Instruments offers an extended temperature hard drive for our PXI controllers for applications requiring high availability.

Services

Calibration - The ability of a measurement device to accurately measure a physical quantity changes with a number of factors. Time in service, temperature, humidity, environmental exposure, and abuse can all affect your measurement accuracy. Calibration quantifies this change in measurement accuracy and, when required, adjusts the device's measurement capability to decrease error. Whether your calibration needs are driven by ISO-9000 requirements or by company mandates, National Instruments offers the support you need to comply.

Professional Services -The NI Professional Services Team consists of National Instruments applications and systems engineers and the National Instruments Alliance Partner program, a network of more than 600 independent consultants and integrators worldwide. Each member possesses in-depth knowledge of NI products and applications and can assist you in developing and deploying your solutions.

Support

Technical Support - National Instruments is dedicated to providing the appropriate level of support to assure your success.  Whether you need to speak to and engineer or find technical support materials including product manuals, drivers and updates, tutorials, discussion forums, and example code, you can find these resources here.
