Module 1: The LabVIEW Environment

Overview

Module 1 introduces the fundamental elements of the LabVIEW environment and discusses the basic tools necessary to create a program in LabVIEW.

Required Software for Exercises:
• NI LabVIEW 8.5 or later

Sub Modules

 

Launching LabVIEW

You will learn how to launch LabVIEW and create a new virtual instrument (VI). In addition, you will be introduced to some of the options and settings available in the LabVIEW environment.


 

Front Panel

The Front Panel allows you to interact with your LabVIEW VI.  In this sub module, you will learn about the Front Panel and to utilize controls and indicators on it.


 

Block Diagram

The Block Diagram is where you will develop the code of your program.  In this sub module, you will learn about the Block Diagram and how to utilize elements from the Functions Palette to develop your code. 


 

User Interface

The Front Panel will be the user interface for your LabVIEW Program.  You will learn some guidelines to create an effective user interface.


 

Module Exercise

In this exercise, you will practice elementary concepts such as creating a new VI, designing a user interface on the Front Panel, and programming on the Block Diagram.
