Software Synchronization Time References
Overview
This document describes technologies and products available to synchronize LabVIEW Real-Time targets. LabVIEW's absolute time sources (LabVIEW Timed Loop) can leverage the synchronized time to synchronize your code execution across targets.
Introduction
TimeSync Plug-ins synchronize the system time to other standards or between targets. The synchronized systems can be used to synchronize software or hardware events.
When coupled with a TimeSync plug-in, NI's LabVIEW Real-Time platform provides advanced scheduling for synchronized, deterministic software execution across multiple targets. LabVIEW 2009's new Timed Structure functionality allows you to synchronize your code to the system time.
Available TimeSync Plug-ins
Software-Based IEEE 1588-2008
Currently in Beta, this TimeSync plug-in allows sub-ms synchronization over Ethernet that does not require additional hardware. The software implementation of the IEEE 1588-2008 protocol is compatible with other IEEE 1588-2008 devices including the PXI-6682 and PCI-1588.
Supported Targets:
- NI CompactRIO: cRIO 9012, 9014, 9072, 9073, 9074, 9022
- NI Single Board RIO: sbRIO-96xx
- NI Compact FieldPoint: cFP 2200, 2210, 2220
- NI Vision: Smart Camera Series
