National Instruments Recertification Policy and Process
Overview
Recertification is important for certified professionals and their employers: it demonstrates up-to-date expertise with the software as new features are released and maintains the certified professional's presence as a product expert in the technical community. All NI certifications are good for 2 years from the date of certification, which is approximately equal to the frequency with which National Instruments makes major revisions to its software. To keep certifications current, the certified individual should advance to take the next higher certification level or recertify at the current level. National Instruments sends a recertification reminder prior to your expiration date.

Certification Status Definitions
- Active: Achieved immediately after passing the certification exam. Active status is in effect for 2 years from the date of certification.
- Suspended (Expired): Results if a certified individual does not pass the recertification exam prior to the expiration date of the certification (2 years from date of issuance of certification). If suspended, the person’s name is removed from the list of certified professionals on ni.com. Suspended status is cleared and changed to Active upon passing the recertification exam within a year of the date of suspension.
- Inactive: The certification status after one year of Suspended status. In order to regain Active status, an individual must repeat the entire certification process starting by taking the Associate Developer exam

Early Recertification
Recertification exams taken prior to your certification expiration date do not alter your current certification status, nor do they lessen the recertification interval.
- Current certification status: If, for example, you are an active Certified LabVIEW Developer whose certification expires March 1, 2011, and you fail the recertification exam on February 1, 2011, your certification is still valid until March 1, 2011. However, you will need to retake and pass the recertification exam to extend your certification status beyond March 1, 2011.
- Recertification interval: For example, if your certification expires March 1, 2011, and you take and pass a recertification exam on February 1, 2011, your certification will remain active for 2 years from the original expiration date - through March 1, 2013.
