Owning Palette: Database VIs and Function
Installed With: Database Connectivity Toolkit
Selects data from the table in the database identified by connection reference using the columns supplied in the columns array.
This VI returns the data as a 2D array of variants. You can convert each element in the array to its native LabVIEW data type using the Database Variant To Data function.

![]() |
optional clause is an optional SQL clause to use when selecting data in order to filter the selection criteria. This clause is appended to the end of a select statement. For example, where (col1 > 10).
![]() |
connection reference specifies a reference to an ADO Connection object.
![]() |
table is the name of the table in the database from which to select data. You can specify multiple tables by using commas as the delimiter.
![]() |
columns specifies the columns in table from which to select data. If this array is empty, all columns in the table are returned.

error in describes error conditions that occur before this VI or function runs.
The default is no error. If an error occurred before this VI or function runs, the VI or function passes the error in value to error out. This VI or function runs normally only if no error occurred before this VI or function runs. If an error occurs while this VI or function runs, it runs normally and sets its own error status in error out. Use the Simple Error Handler or General Error Handler VIs to display the description of the error code.
Use exception control to treat what is normally an error as no error or to treat a warning as an error.
Use error in and error out to check errors and to specify execution order by wiring error out from one node to error in of the next node.

connection reference out returns a reference to an ADO Connection object.

data is a 2D array of database variants that contains the selected data. Use the Database Variant To Data function to convert this data to its native LabVIEW data type.

error out contains error information. If error in indicates that an error occurred before this VI or function ran, error out contains the same error information. Otherwise, it describes the error status that this VI or function produces.
Right-click the error out front panel indicator and select Explain Error from the shortcut menu for more information about the error.
