Installer Options Tab

Use the Installer Options tab to configure the settings the TestStand Deployment Utility uses to create an installer of the files included in the deployment and to specify which components to include from TestStand and other National Instruments software, such as hardware drivers. This tab is enabled if you select the MSI-Based installer build output option in the mode tab.

Notes Notes
  • Refer to <National Instruments>\_Legal Information.txt for information about including legal information in installers built with NI products.
  • You must save the full deployment installer to create a patch deployment installer.
  • (64-bit TestStand) The 64-bit TestStand Deployment Utility created a 64-bit installer that you cannot install on 32-bit operating systems.

The Installer Options tab contains the following options:

  • Installation Name—Enter the name for the installer to use in its titlebar and in the standard Windows Control Panel facility for adding and removing programs. Use a name that uniquely identifies the deployment and describes what the deployment installs.
  • Installer Directory—The directory in which the deployment utility builds the installer.
  • Install TestStand Runtime—Enable this option to install the TestStand Runtime, which is required to execute TestStand sequences on the test station computer and includes the TestStand Engine.
  • Drivers and Components—Launches the Drivers and Components dialog box, in which you can specify redistributable National Instruments drivers and components installed on the development computer to include in the deployment utility installer, such as the LabWindows/CVI Run-Time Engine. When you select an item to install, the deployment utility automatically checks for dependencies. For example, selecting the NI-488.2 driver automatically includes Measurement & Automation Explorer.
  • Advanced Options—Launches the Advanced Installer Options dialog box, in which you can further customize the installer you build with the deployment utility.
  • Custom Commands—Launches the Custom Commands dialog box, in which you configure commands that do not have corresponding options in the deployment utility for the deployment utility installer to execute after installing all files and before rebooting the computer, such as to complete the following tasks:
  • Launch installers for redistributable National Instruments drivers or components, third-party components, or user interfaces.
  • Run gacutil.exe to install a .NET assembly into the GAC.
  • Synchronize files in a source code control system or revision control system.
  • Run a batch file or executable with command-line arguments to complete a series of complex operations.
  • You can use directory macros in the Command and Argument control in the Custom Commands dialog box to avoid using fixed paths when you specify the command or the command arguments on different computers.
Note Note Refer to <National Instruments>\_Legal Information.txt for information about including legal information in installers built with NI products.
  • Hide License Dialog—When you enable this option, the installer does not prompt the user for license activation when installing National Instruments software packages that require license activation, such as the TestStand Runtime. You must have an activated license to run TestStand. Use this option when you want to install an activated license file as part of your installer. This option is dimmed when you enable the Include Network License Server Settings option in the Advanced Installer Options dialog box.
Note Note Refer to <For each system that you deploy, you must activate a TestStand license, typically a unique copy of the TestStand Base Deployment System License or the TestStand Debug Deployment Environment License.
  • Start Menu Item Group—Defines the name of the Microsoft Windows Start menu group to which the deployment utility installer adds items when you enable the Create Program Item option on the Distributed Files tab.
  • Default Installation Base Directory—Defines the base directory the installer uses as the default installation location when you select Installation Directory in the Installation Destination option on the Distributed Files tab. To specify an absolute path, select Absolute Path and enter the absolute path into the Default Installation Base Directory control.
Note Note  When you select the <TestStand> directory as a base directory, the installer installs files into the <TestStand> directory with the same version and bitness of the deployment utility that created the installer.
  • Do Not Ask User for Installation Directory—Enable this option to prevent users from modifying the default installation directory by disabling the installer prompt for an alternate location. When you enable this option, the installer uses the directory the Default Installation Base Directory and Default Installation Subdirectory options specify.
  • Default Installation Subdirectory—Defines the subdirectory under the default installation base directory when you select Installation Directory in the Installation Destination option on the Distributed Files tab.
Note Note  When you specify Absolute Path in the Default Installation Base Directory control, the deployment utility uses directory specified in the Default Installation control as the default subdirectory.
  • Default Installation Directory—An absolute path the installer uses as the default installation location. This option is only visible when you specify Absolute Path in the Default Installation Base Directory control.
  • Installation Language—Specify the language the installer uses during installation. Options include English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese Simplified.
