If you encounter an incompatibility in an existing test system when you use the TestStand 2012 or later process models or other circumstances prevent you from using the TestStand 2012 or later process models, you can use the equivalent legacy TestStand 2010 process models. However, National Instruments recommends using the TestStand 2012 or later process models in most cases.

Note Note  If you migrate a custom legacy process model file to TestStand 2012 or later, you must also migrate the corresponding ModelSupport.seq file from the earlier version of TestStand, or you must use the equivalent legacy TestStand 2010 process models, which include a legacy ModelSupport.seq file.

You can manually select the equivalent legacy TestStand 2010 process models to use. Alternatively, you can use the Legacy Model Switcher tool to replace the TestStand 2012 or later process models with equivalent legacy TestStand 2010 process models located in <TestStand>\Components\Models\TestStandModels or vice versa. This tool does not affect any custom process models.

You can also use the Legacy Model Switcher to migrate the result processing options from the TestStand 2012 or later process models to the equivalent legacy TestStand 2010 process models or vice versa.

You must restart all TestStand applications for the new settings to take effect.

You can launch the Legacy Model Switcher tool in the following ways:

  • (Windows 8.1) Click the NI Launcher tile on the Start screen and select TestStand»Tools»Compatibility»TestStand Legacy Model Switcher.
  • (Windows 10 or 7) Select Start»All Programs»National Instruments»TestStand»Tools»Compatibility»TestStand Legacy Model Switcher.
  • Run <TestStand>\Components\Models\TestStandModels\TestStand 2010 Process Models (Legacy)\LegacyModelSwitcher.exe.

You can also use the /NEW or /LEGACY command-line arguments to programmatically select which TestStand process models to use.

The Legacy Model Switcher contains the following options:

  • Use New Models—Specifies to use the default TestStand 2012 or later process models.
    • Migrate Report Options from Legacy Models—Creates a new configuration in a configuration set called Options from Legacy Models. The tool automatically selects a unique name for the configuration if the programatically tool has already used the default name in a previous completed migration. Refer to the migration report for the specific configuration names the tool uses.
    • Migrate Database Options from Legacy Models—Creates a new configuration in a configuration set called Options from Legacy Models. The tool automatically selects a unique name for the configuration if the programatically tool has already used the default name in a previous completed migration. Refer to the migration report for the specific configuration names the tool uses.
  • Use Legacy Models—Specifies to use the equivalent legacy TestStand 2010 process models.
    • Migrate Report Options from New Models—Select a configuration to migrate to use with the equivalent legacy TestStand 2010 process models. Migrating report options from the default TestStand 2010 process models overwrites any existing legacy-style options files.
    • Migrate Database Options from New Models—Select a configuration to migrate to use with the equivalent legacy TestStand 2010 process models. Migrating database options from the default TestStand 2010 process models overwrites any existing legacy-style options files.
