The LabVIEW Datalogging and Supervisory Control (DSC) Module supports several types of servers, including the following:
- OPC Servers—Compliant with version 2.x and 3.0 of the OPC Data Access specification, as defined by the OPC Foundation.
- Custom I/O Servers—You can build a custom I/O server when you have a uniquely configured or custom device that you want to use with the DSC Module. You can use DSC Module VIs and functions to provide data to the Shared Variable Engine.
- Data Set Marking—You can create a data set marking I/O server to log data for groups of network-published shared variables.
- Modbus—You can create Modbus I/O servers to read and write data directly to Modbus devices using network-published shared variables.
- ModbusSlave—You can create Modbus slave I/O servers to use National Instruments controllers as Modbus slave devices. You then can bind data items in the simulated Modbus slave devices to network-published shared variables to read or write the data from VIs or Modbus master devices.

Note By default, the DSC Module does not install Modbus support. You must click Modbus Protocol Support in the Features page of the DSC Module installer and select Install this feature to a local drive. You also can launch the Windows Add or Remove Programs window and click the Change button for National Instruments Software to modify the installation. Click the Modify button in the National Instruments Software dialog box and select Install this feature to a local drive for the Modbus Protocol Support feature. |
- Alarm Printer—You can create Alarm Printer I/O servers to print alarms and events that LabVIEW processes generate.
- Third-Party Servers—You also can use servers provided by a third-party hardware manufacturer.
