Editing Shared Variable Configuration Manually (DSC Module)

You can edit the logging, update deadband, alarming, scaling, initial value, description, and security properties of existing shared variables.

Note  You can use the features the LabVIEW DSC Module adds only for network-published shared variables.

Complete the following steps to edit the properties of an existing shared variable.

  1. Right-click a shared variable in the Project Explorer window and select Properties from the shortcut menu to display the Shared Variable Properties dialog box.
  2. Select one of the following options in the listbox of the Shared Variable Properties dialog box to display specific properties you can configure.
    • Logging—Displays properties that describe logging resolution, logging deadband, and other logging settings for a shared variable.
    • Update Deadband—Displays properties that describe the deadband ranges for a shared variable.
    • Alarming—Displays properties that describe abnormal process conditions for a given shared variable.
    • Scaling—Displays properties that describe which scaling function to apply to a shared variable value.
    • Initial Value—Displays properties that describe the initial values for a shared variable.
    • Description—Displays properties that describe a shared variable.
    • Security—Displays properties that describe security settings for a shared variable.
  3. Use the National Instruments Shared Variable Monitor to test the shared variable configuration and make sure you are reading and writing data properly with servers. Select Tools»DSC Module»Monitor Variables to launch the Shared Variable Monitor.

You also can use the SharedVariableIO properties to edit programmatically the properties of shared variables.
