Filtering Alarms and Events in the Alarm and Event Display Control (DSC Module)

Complete the following steps to set the filter criteria to see certain alarms and events in the Alarm and Event Display control. To complete these steps, you must have a VI with an Alarm and Event Display control on the front panel.

  1. Select Operate»Change to Run Mode to switch the VI to run mode.
  2. Right-click the Alarm and Event Display control on the front panel and select Filter Options from the shortcut menu to display the Filter dialog box.
  3. Select among the following filter options.
    • Place a checkmark in the Priority checkbox and enter values in the Min and Max fields to monitor alarms with specific priorities.
    • Place a checkmark in the User Name checkbox and enter a user name in the text box to restrict alarm monitoring to alarms generated while that user is logged on. You can enter only one user name at a time, but you can use asterisk (*) or question mark (?) wildcards to widen the scope of the alarms reported.
    • Place a checkmark in the Ack. User Name checkbox and enter a user name in the text box to restrict alarm monitoring to alarms acknowledged by that user. You can enter only one user name at a time, but you can use wildcards to widen the scope of the alarms reported.
    • Place a checkmark in the Ack. Comment checkbox and enter a comment in the text box to restrict the alarms displayed to those with that acknowledgement comment.
    • Place a checkmark in the Object Name checkbox and enter a shared variable name to restrict alarm monitoring to alarms involving that shared variable name. You can enter only one shared variable name at a time, but you can use wildcards to widen the scope of the alarms reported. Make sure that you enter the full path to the shared variable, as shown in the shared variable display pane above the alarm view.
    • Place a checkmark in the Description checkbox and enter a description to restrict monitoring to alarms that meet the criteria. You can select only one description category at a time, but you can use wildcards to widen the scope of the alarms reported. The DSC Module adds HI_HI, HI, LO, or LO_LO as a prefix to any descriptions, but the Alarm and Event Display controls ignores the prefix when filtering the description.
    • Place a checkmark in the Area Name checkbox and enter an area name in the text box to restrict monitoring to that alarm area. You can enter only one alarm area at a time.
    • Use the Old Alarms section to display alarms after they have been acknowledged.
    • Select Show Alarms, Show Events, or Show Everything to display alarms only, events only, or both alarms and events.
    • Place a checkmark in the Audible Alarms checkbox to enable a sound alert when an alarm takes place. The sound depends on the system setting for error sounds.
  4. Click the OK button. The Alarm and Event Display control displays only the alarms and events that meet all the filter criteria.
