Select Tools»Real-Time Module»Real-Time System Manager to launch the Real-Time System Manager and view RT target information.

The Real-Time System Manager displays details about VIs running on an RT target and provides a dynamic display of the memory and CPU resources for the target. You can stop VIs and start idle VIs on the RT target using the Real-Time System Manager.

The Real-Time System Manager includes the following components and tabs:

  • Machine Name / IP Address—Sets the IP address or computer name of the RT target you want to monitor.
  • Port—Specifies the TCP/IP port at which the VI server listens for requests on the RT target. Right-click the RT target in the Project Explorer window and select Properties from the shortcut menu to display the RT Target Properties dialog box. Select VI Server from the Category list to display the VI Server page, where you can configure the TCP/IP port for the VI Server.
  • Update Interval—Sets the minimum time that the server waits between updates. The actual update interval might exceed the time you specify if higher priority tasks are running on the RT target.
  • Resources—This tab includes the following components:
    • Track Memory Usage—Enables the Real-Time System Manager to display a graph indicating the percentage of memory the VIs running on the target consume on the RT target.
    • Total (K)—Displays the total memory available on the RT target. This total does not include memory allocated to the OS kernel.
    • Used (K)—Displays the total memory the VIs and processes running on the RT target currently consume.
    • Available (K)—Displays the total memory available for new VIs and processes on the RT target.
    • Contiguous (K)—Displays the largest contiguous memory block available on the RT target.
    • Track CPU Usage—Enables the Real-Time System Manager to display a graph indicating the percentage of processor resources the VIs running on the RT target consume.
      Red Specifies time-critical priority activity.
Yellow Specifies high and above normal priority activity.
      White Specifies normal priority activity.
      Blue Specifies low priority activity.
    • CPU Total (%)—Displays a numeric representation of the total CPU resources the VIs running on the RT target consume.
  • VIs—This tab includes the following components:
    • Track VI States—Tracks VIs running on the RT target and presents the state of each.
Note  Enabling this option can have an adverse effect on performance for slower RT targets.
    • Show Top Level VIs Only—Filters all subVIs from the Track VI States list.
    • Start VI—Starts an idle VI that you select from the Track VI States list.
    • Stop VI—Stops a VI that you select from the Track VI States list.
  • Alerts—This tab includes the following components:
    • Log Alert when memory usage is above (K)—Enables the Real-Time System Manager to log an alert if memory usage on the RT target exceeds the value you specify.
    • Log Alert when CPU usage is above (%)—Enables the Real-Time System Manager to log an alert if CPU usage on the RT target exceeds the value you specify.
    • Log Alert when VI changes state—Enables the Real-Time System Manager to log an alert if a VI listed in the Track VI States list of the VIs tab changes state.
    • Recent Alerts—Lists the recent alerts logged by the Real-Time System Manager.
    • Clear—Clears the Recent Alerts list.
    • Save—Saves the Recent Alerts list to a file on the host computer.
  • Start Monitoring—Starts monitoring the specified RT target.
  • Close—Closes the Real-Time System Manager.
