You can use the C Series Module Properties dialog box for the NI 9512, NI 9514, or NI 9516 to check the current firmware version on the NI 951x module and to download firmware to the module.

Downloading the Firmware to the NI 951x Module

Before downloading firmware to the NI 951x module ensure that the chassis or the NI 951x module slot is configured for Scan Interface Mode and that the NI Scan Engine is in Configuration mode. Use the NI Distributed System Manager to view and configure the scan engine mode. Use the Get Scan Engine Mode VI to read the scan engine mode programmatically. Use the Set Scan Engine Mode VI to set the scan engine mode programmatically.

Note Note  The NI 951x modules require high-speed interface slots when the module is used in Scan Interface programming mode. When the chassis is in Scan Interface programming mode, the high-speed interface slots are typically slots 1 through 4. When the chassis is in FPGA Interface programming mode, you can configure individual slots to use the high-speed interface.

Complete the following steps to download firmware to the module.

  1. Right-click the NI 951x module in the Project Explorer window and select Properties from the shortcut menu to open the C Series Module Properties dialog box.
  2. Click Check Version. The 951x Firmware Update Utility checks the firmware version on the module and displays the version number in Firmware Version on Module.
    • To upgrade firmware on the module, check that the version is greater than the version displayed in Available Firmware Version.
    • To downgrade firmware on the module, check that the version is less than the version displayed in Available Firmware Version.
  3. Click Download. The firmware on the host is transferred to the module. This process may take several minutes.
Note Note  If the firmware update process is interrupted during transfer by removing the module or disconnecting power, click Download to restart the transfer.
