You can download DSP applications to flash memory on the DSP target. When you download a DSP application to flash memory, the DSP application runs on the DSP target each time you power on or reset the DSP target. The DSP application remains the default application on the DSP target until you download another application to flash memory or reset the DSP target to the factory default settings using the POST (power-on self-test). When you download a DSP application to flash memory, the DSP target can continue to run even if you unplug the DSP target from the host computer.

Note  You must have an alternate power source for the DSP target when you unplug the target from the host computer if you want the application to continue to run on the DSP target.

Complete the following steps to download a DSP application to flash memory.

Note  You must stop the VI before you can download it to flash memory.
  1. Right-click the Build Specifications item under the DSP target in the Project Explorer window and select New»Flash Memory Build to display the Specify Flash Memory Build dialog box.
  2. On the General page, enter a name in the Build specification name text box.
  3. On the Source File page, select how you want to download the DSP VI to flash memory.
    • Current DSP memory—Downloads whatever is currently in DSP memory to the flash memory on the DSP target. If a DSP application has just executed, the latest values of the front panel controls and indicators are downloaded to the flash memory.
    • Selected VI—Builds the VI you select from the host PC into a DSP application, downloads the application to the DSP memory, and then downloads the application from the DSP memory to the flash memory on the DSP target. When you select this option, the default values of the front panel control and indicators are downloaded to the DSP target.
  4. Click the OK button to close the dialog box. The new flash memory build specification appears under the Build Specifications item under the DSP target.
  5. Make sure you have an active connection between LabVIEW and the DSP target.
  6. Right-click the build specification under the DSP target and select Deploy in the shortcut menu to build and deploy the DSP application to flash memory on the DSP target. The DSP application now runs from flash memory when you reset or power on the DSP device.
Tip  To begin the DSP application immediately after programming flash memory, select Run from the shortcut menu in step 6.

Troubleshooting Downloads to Flash Memory

If the DSP Module cannot program the flash memory, try resetting the flash memory to the factory default settings by deploying the POST.
