Creating a New Lab (Lesson Manager)

You can create new labs for use on the host computer or the target device. A new lab contains a LabVIEW project, shown in the Project Explorer window, and a main VI, composed of a front panel and block diagram. The front panel window, which has a gray background, contains the controls and indicators for a VI and the block diagram window, which has a white background, shows the programming objects. LabVIEW provides several tutorials to help you get started programming with LabVIEW.

Creating a New Lab for My Computer

Complete the following steps to create a lab that runs on the host computer.

  1. Click the On My Computer icon in the New Custom Lab section of the Lesson Manager window.
  2. Click the Go button in the New Custom Lab section. LabVIEW creates a LabVIEW project file and a blank VI.
  3. Start building a front panel and block diagram using this blank VI.
Tip Tip  Press the <Ctrl-E> keys to switch between the block diagram window and front panel window of the VI. You also can select Window»Show Front Panel or Window»Show Block Diagram.

Creating a New Lab for the Default Non-Windows Target

Complete the following steps to create a lab that runs on the default, non-Windows target.

  1. Click the On My Hardware icon in the New Custom Lab section of the Lesson Manager window.
  2. Click the Go button in the New Custom Lab section. LabVIEW creates a project file containing target device input and output resources and a blank VI.
  3. Start building a front panel and block diagram using this blank VI.
Note Note  By default, the non-Windows target is the NI SPEEDY-33. Refer to the Customizing and Using the LabVIEW Lesson Manager manual for information about changing the default, non-Windows target.
