Sends a text email to a list of recipients.
Use the SMTP Send Message (Small) VI to minimize memory usage and if you do not need to send attachments.

![]() |
return address is the email address of the message sender. When you do not specify a return address, an empty string is sent to the server. While you are not required to include a return address for this VI to work, some mail servers do not accept messages without this information.
![]() |
mail server is the name or IP address of a valid SMTP server. If you pass an empty string to this input, LabVIEW refuses the network connection and returns error 63.
![]() |
recipients is the array of strings that contains the email addresses of the message recipients. Each address can be a separate array element.
![]() |
subject is the subject line of the message. The default is [No Subject].
![]() |
message is the text message, formatted using the system character set, of the email. LabVIEW converts this string to UTF-8 format before sending the email.
![]() |
error in describes error conditions that occur before this VI or function runs.
The default is no error. If an error occurred before this VI or function runs, the VI or function passes the error in value to error out. This VI or function runs normally only if no error occurred before this VI or function runs. If an error occurs while this VI or function runs, it runs normally and sets its own error status in error out. Use the Simple Error Handler or General Error Handler VIs to display the description of the error code. Use error in and error out to check errors and to specify execution order by wiring error out from one node to error in of the next node.

![]() |
invalid recipients lists the recipients rejected by the mail server.
![]() |
error out contains error information. If error in indicates that an error occurred before this VI or function ran, error out contains the same error information. Otherwise, it describes the error status that this VI or function produces.
Right-click the error out front panel indicator and select Explain Error from the shortcut menu for more information about the error.
