Use one of the following ways to display this dialog box:

  • Right-click the icon in the upper right corner of the front panel or block diagram for a VI icon, or in the upper right corner of the Control window for a control or indicator icon, and select Edit Icon from the shortcut menu to display the Icon Editor dialog box.
  • Right-click the icon in the upper right corner of the front panel or block diagram and select VI Properties from the shortcut menu to open the VI Properties dialog box. Select General from the Category pull-down menu and click the Edit Icon button.
  • Select File»VI Properties to open the VI Properties dialog box. Select General from the Category pull-down menu and click the Edit Icon button.

Use this dialog box to create and edit icons.

Note  LabVIEW overlays a LabVIEW class or project library icon mask to class and library icons. If you create or edit an icon for a LabVIEW class or library, use an image no larger than 32 pixels wide by 19 pixels high for the class or library icon to avoid the mask obscuring any part of the icon.

This dialog box includes the following components:

Pencil—Draws and erases pixel by pixel. To draw horizontal or vertical lines, press the <Shift> key while you use this tool to drag the cursor.
Line—Draws straight lines. To draw horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines, press the <Shift> key while you use this tool to drag the cursor.
Color Copy—Copies the foreground color from an element in the icon. After you copy a color from the icon, you automatically return to the tool you were using before you selected the Color Copy tool.
Fill—Fills an outlined area with the foreground color.
Rectangle—Draws a rectangular border in the foreground color. Double-click this tool to frame the icon in the foreground color.
Filled Rectangle—Draws a rectangle with a foreground color frame and filled with the background color. Double-click this tool to frame the icon in the foreground color and fill it with the background color.
Select—Selects an area of the icon to cut, copy, move, or make other changes. Double-click this tool and press the <Delete> key to delete the entire icon.
Text—Enters text into the icon. Double-click this tool to select a different font. While text is active, you can move the text by pressing the arrow keys. (Windows) Small Fonts works well in icons.
Foreground/Background—Displays the current foreground and background colors. Click each rectangle to access a color picker from which you can select new colors.
  • Copy from—Copies from a color icon to a black and white icon and from a black and white icon to a color icon.
  • Show Terminals—Place a checkmark in this checkbox to show an outline of the connector pane on the editing area. The connector pane is only a guide. It does not appear in the final icon.

Use the lv_icon VI template in the labview\resource\plugins directory to create a VI with which you can edit VI icons outside of the Icon Editor dialog box.
