Complete the following steps to have LabVIEW prompt the user to select a file in a dialog box.

1. Place the File Dialog Express VI on the block diagram.
2. In the configuration dialog box that appears, set the types of files or directories the user can select in the file dialog box and click the OK button to close the dialog box.
3. Right-click the selected path output and select Create»Indicator from the shortcut menu. The front panel displays the path.
4. Run the VI. A dialog box appears according to the option you selected in step 2.

You also can select a file for reading and writing.
