New and Changed from 8.6 to 2009

New Environment Options—Lists environment options new in this version of LabVIEW.

  • Disable ni.com updates in Getting Started window—Allows you to disable the automatic check for the latest articles on the ni.com Web site.
  • Maximum entries in recent files lists—Allows you to set the maximum number of files LabVIEW lists when you select File»Recent Files menu.

New Front Panel Options—Lists front panel options new in this version of LabVIEW.

  • Use numbers in icons of new VIs (1 through 9)—Allows you to disable the automatic placement of numbers on the icons of the first nine VIs you create after you launch LabVIEW. This option does not affect VIs you create from templates.

New and Changed Categories—Lists categories that are new or changed in this version of LabVIEW.

New Web Server Options—Lists LabVIEW Web Server options new in this version of LabVIEW.

  • SSL (requires Web services)Enables SSL support on the selected Web Server instance. You cannot enable SSL on the default Web Server instance. You must create a new Web Server instance that does not use port 80 to enable this option.
  • SSL certificate File—Specifies the certificate to use for SSL encryption on the selected Web server instance. You can leave this component blank to use the default LabVIEW self-signed certificate.
  • Discovered certificates—Lists available certificates on the system specified in the Server address text box.
  • Server address—Specifies the name or IP address of a system that contains certificates. For example, you can enter localhost to view certificates on the local system.
  • Query—Queries the system specified in the Server address text box for available certificates. Discovered certificates appear in the Discovered certificates list box.

Changed Default Since 8.6—Lists the options whose default values changed in this version of LabVIEW.

  • The default number of steps for the Maximum undo steps per VI option on the Environment page changed from 9 to 30.

New and Changed from 8.5 to 8.6

New Web Server: Configuration Options—Lists LabVIEW Web Server options new in this version of LabVIEW.

  • Server Label—Allows you to customize the name of a server instance.
  • Server Labels (Ports)—Displays all instances currently configured for the Web Server.
  • IP Address of Listener—Specifies the IP address of the selected Web Server instance. The pull-down menu contains all addresses available on the local computer.
  • Allow Access—Lists options to configure available features for the selected Web Server instance.
    • Remote Front Panels—Allows you to view and control front panels remotely.
    • (Windows) Web Services—Activates Web services in the LabVIEW Full Development System and the LabVIEW Professional Development System.
    • Snapshot—Displays a static image of the front panel of a VI currently in memory on the Web Server.
    • Scripting—Allows you to run scripts that generate dynamic content, such as an HTML interface, on the Web Server.
    • Static Content—Allows static content, such as HTML pages, on the Web Server.

New pages—Lists options pages new in this version of LabVIEW.

New and Changed from 8.2 to 8.5

New Block Diagram Options—Lists block diagram options new in this version of LabVIEW.

  • Use transparent free labels—Allows you to create free labels without a border or background color.

Changed Default Since 8.2—Lists the Controls/Functions palette option whose default value changed in this version of LabVIEW.

  • Use transparent name labels—Uses transparent labels for objects on the block diagram. This checkbox contains a checkmark by default.

New Front Panel Options—Lists front panel options new in this version of LabVIEW.

  • Connector pane terminals default to Required—Designates new connector pane terminals as required terminals.

New pages—Lists options pages new in this version of LabVIEW.

New and Changed from 8.0 to 8.2

New Environment Options—Lists environment options new in this version of LabVIEW.

  • Enable automatic saving for recovery—Automatically saves open files at the specified intervals. In the event of an irregular shutdown or system failure, the Select Files to Recover window displays recoverable files the next time you launch LabVIEW.
    • Save before a VI runs—Backs up open files before you run a VI.
    • Save before a VI runs and periodically—Backs up open files before you run a VI and at the intervals specified in the minutes field.
      • minutes—Specifies how often LabVIEW backs up open files. You must select Save before a VI runs and periodically to enable this field.

New Block Diagram Options—Lists block diagram options new in this version of LabVIEW.

  • Show constant folding of wires—Displays hash marks on wires attached to constants that are constant folded.
  • Show constant folding of structures—Displays gray hash marks inside structures that are constant folded.

New and Changed from 7.1 to 8.0

New Block Diagram Options—Lists block diagram options new in this version of LabVIEW.

  • Labels snap to preset positions on terminals—Snaps labels and captions for new objects on the block diagram to preset positions. This checkbox contains a checkmark by default.
  • Labels locked by default—Locks labels and captions in place for new objects on the block diagram. This checkbox does not contain a checkmark by default.
  • Default label position—Sets the default label position for objects on the block diagram. The default is the initial label position LabVIEW automatically sets for each object.

  • Default label position—Sets the default label position for objects on the block diagram. The default is the initial label position LabVIEW automatically sets for each object.

Controls/Functions Palette Options—Lists Controls and Functions palette options new or with changed default values in this version of LabVIEW.

  • New—Lists the Controls/Functions palette options new in this version of LabVIEW.
    • Sort palette items—Sorts items on the same level of the palette alphabetically. This option only applies to the Text and Tree formats. You also can click the View button on the Controls or Functions palettes and select Sort Alphabetically from the shortcut menu to sort palette items alphabetically.
  • Changed Default Since LabVIEW 7.1—Lists the Controls/Functions palette option whose default value changed in this version of LabVIEW.
    • Format—Sets the appearance of the palette items within the selected palette view. The default is Category (Standard). You can select from the following:
      • Category (Standard)—Displays top-level palettes as categories and displays subpalettes in the format of the individual subpalette.
      • Category (Icons and Text)—Displays top-level palettes as categories and displays palette items as icons with text labels below each icon.
      • Icons—Displays palette items as icons.
      • Icons and Text—Displays palette items as icons with text labels below each icon. Icons and Text is the default format in LabVIEW 7.1.
      • Text—Displays a text list of palette items. If you close the palette, you can right-click the front panel or block diagram to display a shortcut menu that contains all the palette items. Select View»Controls Palette or View»Functions Palette to display the palette again.
      • Tree—Displays palette items as text in a tree control.
