Use the Quick Drop dialog box to specify an object by name and add the object to the block diagram or front panel.

Note  If you do not know the name of an object, navigate the Controls or Functions palette or the Project Explorer window to locate the object.

Complete the following steps to use the Quick Drop dialog box.

  1. Press the <Ctrl-Space> keys or select View»Quick Drop to display the Quick Drop dialog box. On Chinese keyboards, press the <Ctrl-Shift-Space> keys. (Mac OS X) Press the <Command-Shift-Space> keys to display the dialog box. (Linux) Press the <Alt–Space> keys.

You can locate objects according to the window from which you launch the dialog box. For example, if you launch the dialog box from the block diagram, you can locate objects on the Functions palette and items in active LabVIEW projects. You cannot launch the Quick Drop dialog box from the Project Explorer window.
Tip Tip  You can speed up the initial launch of the Quick Drop dialog box by enabling the Load palettes during launch radio button on the Controls/Functions Palette page of the Options dialog box. Selecting to load the palettes while LabVIEW launches might slow down the launching of LabVIEW slightly.
  1. Type the name of the object you want to add to the block diagram or front panel. LabVIEW displays the results in the Name Match List.
Note Note  You must save project items to disk to display the items in the Quick Drop dialog box.
  1. LabVIEW populates the Object Name text box with the name of the best match. To select a different match from the Name Match List, click the name of an object in the list or press the down arrow key.
  2. To attach the object you select to the cursor, press the <Enter> key, double-click the name of the object in the list, or click the block diagram or front panel.
  3. Click the location on the block diagram or front panel where you want to add the object.
Note Note  (Windows) You also can search in LabVIEW for a control, VI, function, or project item by name.
