Right-click an FPGA target in the Project Explorer window and select Properties from the shortcut menu to display the FPGA Target Properties dialog box. The General page appears by default.

Use this page to set general characteristics of the FPGA target.

This page contains the following components:

  • Name—Specifies the name of the FPGA target that appears in the Project Explorer window.
  • Resource—Specifies the FPGA target hardware. For FPGA targets that appear in NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) as NI-RIO devices, this is the VISA resource name. For FPGA targets that appear in MAX as NI-DAQmx devices, the Resource is the name of the device that you specify in MAX.
  • Target Class—Displays the FPGA target class of the FPGA target you configured in the Project Explorer window. For example, the NI PXI-7831R FPGA target class is PXI-7831R. The functionality and options that you can configure on an FPGA target depend on the FPGA target class and what the FPGA target class supports. Use this information to find more information about specific functionality and options available for the FPGA target in the specific target hardware documentation. You cannot change the Target Class after you add the FPGA target to the Project Explorer window.
  • Emulator—Specifies whether the FPGA target uses an emulator. This option is available only for FPGA targets that support emulators. Refer to the specific FPGA target hardware documentation for more information. This component can include the following options:

    • Off—Disables the emulator.
    • On—Use Random Data for Inputs—Generates random data for inputs.
    • Off—Use Target Hardware for I/O—Downloads a pre-compiled emulation VI to the FPGA target to provide I/O.
  • VI Properties—Contains the following option:
    • Run when loaded to FPGA—Specifies that FPGA VIs run automatically when you load them to the FPGA target. The availability of this option varies by FPGA target. Refer to the specific FPGA target hardware documentation for more information.

Note  The FPGA VI you download to the flash memory automatically loads to the FPGA on the FPGA target even if you do not compile it with the Run when loaded to FPGA option. However, the VI does not run automatically. Verify that the FPGA VI is compiled with the Run when loaded to FPGA option if you want the VI to run automatically when it loads to the FPGA.
