Configuring Security Settings for Front Panel Controls and Indicators (DSC Module)

You can configure security settings for an individual front panel object or for multiple front panel objects at one time. You can grant access to front panel objects for users and groups only. You cannot set security settings for a computer.

To add user or group access for a front panel object, the user or group first must be created in the Domain Account Manager.

Complete the following steps to configure security for a front panel object.

  1. Right-click the control or indicator and select Properties from the shortcut menu.
  2. Select the Security tab in the Properties dialog box.
  3. Click the Add button to display the Add New Host/User dialog box and select a user or group for which you want to configure access rights.
  4. Click the OK button to close the Add New Host/User dialog box and return to the Security tab of the Properties dialog box.
  5. For each user or group, select an access level from the Access pull-down menu. You can select Full Access, Disabled (View Only), Disabled & Grayed Out, or No Access (Hidden).
  6. Click the OK button to close the Properties dialog box.

Complete the following steps to configure security for multiple front panel objects at a time.

  1. On the front panel, select Tools»Security»Front Panel Security to open the Front Panel Security dialog box.
  2. The Controls & Indicators list contains the objects on the front panel and displays whether the objects have been configured for security. Select one or more objects from the Controls & Indicators list.
  3. Click the Add button to open the Add New Host/User dialog box and select a user or group for which you want to configure access rights.
  4. Click the OK button to close the Add New Host/User dialog box and return to the Front Panel Security dialog box.
  5. Select an access level from the Access pull-down menu to set permissions for the currently selected user or group.
  6. Click the OK button to close the Front Panel Security dialog box.
Note  To restrict access to specific users and groups, set the access level to No Access (Hidden) for the Everyone account.

You also can copy and paste security settings between controls and indicators. Select a control or indicator and click the Copy ACL Value and then select another control or indicator and click the Paste ACL Value button. You also can copy values between VIs.

LabVIEW applies the most restrictive security mode for the control or indicator. For example, if you configure security for a control in the Security tab, and you also use a property node, such as the Disabled property, to affect the behavior of the same control, LabVIEW applies the most restrictive security mode. LabVIEW maintains both pieces of security information and applies them as necessary.

Note  You cannot add security to ActiveX controls.
