The Remez algorithm generates finite impulse response (FIR) filters that minimize the maximum error between the target frequency response and the designed filter frequency response. This error specification yields filters with equi-ripple or Chebyshev error behavior.

Several Digital Filter Design VIs use the Remez algorithm. The DFD Remez Design VI extends the application of the Remez algorithm to include the following advanced and specialized digital filter designs.

• Type I−IV linear phase FIR filter design
• Differentiator design
• Hilbert transformer design
• Arbitrary shape FIR filter design
• Optimal magnitude approximation design (minimum or maximum phase)
• Single-point band design
• Exact gain control design
• Ripple constraint design
