You can use the Digital Filter Design Toolkit to design the following types of filters:

  • Single-rate filters—Single-rate filters are digital filters that do not change the sampling frequency of a signal during the filtering process. Therefore, if you apply a single-rate filter to an input signal, the output signal has the same sampling frequency as the input signal. The Designing Floating-Point Filters book contains more information about designing single-rate filters.
  • Multirate filters—Multirate filters are digital filters that convert the sampling frequency of an input signal to a new sampling frequency. Multirate filters increase or decrease the sampling frequency of the input signal while minimizing passband distortion, aliasing, and imaging in the signal. Therefore, the sampling frequency of the output signal from a multirate filter is different from that of the input signal. Multirate filters can reduce computational complexity and data volume in one system, or multirate filters can change the frequency as necessary to be compatible with other systems. In multirate signal processing, the primary consideration is the selection and modification of the proper sampling frequency.   • Filter Banks—Filter banks are arrays of band-pass filters that separate an input signal into several components, each of which carries a single frequency subband.
