Place Menu

The following table describes the commands found in the Place menu.

Command
Description
From database
Places parts from the database onto the workspace.
Line
Places a line or a trace, depending on the active layer.
Select
Use to change from placing elements to selecting elements.
Follow-me
Places a trace between two selected points.
Connection Machine
Places a trace between two pads.
Dimension»Standard dimension
Places a standard dimension (a dimension to be placed at an angle).
Dimension»Horizontal dimension
Places a horizontal dimension.
Dimension»Vertical dimension
Places a vertical dimension.
Graphics»Circle
Places a circle.
Graphics»Ellipse
Places an ellipse.
Graphics»Pie
Places a pie shape.
Graphics»Polygon
Places a polygon.
Graphics»Rectangle
Places a rectangle.
Graphics»Rounded rectangle
Places a rounded rectangle.
Graphics»Arc
Places an arc.
Graphics»Bezier curve
Places a bezier curve.
Graphics»Elliptical arc
Places an elliptical arc.
Graphics»Line
Places a line.
Graphics»Picture
Places an assortment of graphic elements:
- Bitmap files (*.bmp)—Bitmap file format.
- JPEG (*.jpg, *.jpeg, *.jpe, *.jfif)—Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPG) file format.
- GIF (*.gif)—CompuServe Graphics Interchange file format.
- TIFF (*.tif, *.tiff)—Tagged Image file format.
- PNG (*.png)—Portable Network Graphics file format.
- ICO (*.ico)—Icon file format.
- CUR (*.cur)—Cursor file format.
You can only place color images on mechanical layers. On all other layers, placed images appear in the same color as the layer, as set in the Layers tab of the Design Toolbox.
You cannot place images on Keep in/keep out layers.
Graphics»Text
Places text on the design. Useful for annotation purposes.
Power plane
Defines layers as Power/Ground planes or to clear layers that were previously defined as Power/Ground planes.
Bus
Connects multiple traces between multi-pinned devices such as ICs.
Keep-in/keep-out area
Defines a polygon to restrict elements from either exiting or entering the area.
Group array box
Places parts in a grid array.
Pins
Used during In-Place Editing of a part to place a footprint.
Via
Places a via.
Test point
Places a test point.
Jumper
Places a jumper.
Net bridge
Places a net bridge on the design.
Hole
Places a hole on the workspace.
Automatic test points
Automatically places a test point on each net on your design.
Unplace parts
Unplaces all non-locked parts.
Comment
Places a comment on the design.
