You can use the Windows CE Remote File Viewer or folder sharing to manually download a Mobile application to an x86 emulator for Pocket PC.
When to Use Windows CE Remote File Viewer versus Folder Sharing
If you are downloading Mobile applications only, you can use either the Windows CE Remote File Viewer or folder sharing.
Folder sharing cannot detect DLLs, so if the application calls DLLs that are not already on the x86 emulator, you must use the Windows CE Remote File Viewer to download the DLL.
Using the Windows CE Remote File Viewer
Complete the following steps to download a Mobile application using an x86 emulator and the Windows CE Remote File Viewer.
- Shut down the x86 emulator if the emulator is running.
- Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows CE Tools\Platman\bin and run cefilevw.exe, which opens the Select a Windows CE Device dialog box and the Windows CE Remote File Viewer window.
- Double-click Pocket PC 2003 Emulator under Pocket PC 2003 in the Select a Windows CE Device dialog box to launch the x86 emulator. The file system of the x86 emulator appears in the Windows CE Remote File Viewer window.
 | Note If you do not shut down the x86 emulator before you run cefilevw.exe, Pocket PC opens another instance of the emulator because the Windows CE Remote File Viewer cannot connect to an already running emulator. |
- Click the Export button, which is the yellow up arrow button, in the Windows CE Remote File Viewer window.
- Navigate to the Mobile application on the host computer.
- Select the application you want to download and click the Open button to download the application to the x86 emulator.
Using Folder Sharing
Complete the following steps to download a Mobile application using an x86 emulator and folder sharing.
- Select Start»All Programs»Microsoft Pocket PC 2003 SDK»Pocket PC 2003 Emulator to start the emulator. Wait until the emulator start screen appears.
- Select Emulator»Folder Sharing in the x86 emulator to open the Folder Sharing dialog box.
- Navigate to and select the directory on the host computer you want to share.
- Click the OK button. The x86 emulator adds the directory you selected as a storage card.
Finding the Directory You Shared
Complete the following steps to find the directory you shared using folder sharing.
- On the x86 emulator, select Start»Programs.
- Select the File Explorer icon. My Documents appears in the toolbar on the x86 emulator screen.
- Select My Documents, which changes to Show.
- Select My Device. Click the Storage Card folder to access the folder you shared.
