Use the Short Message Service VIs to enable Mobile applications to programmatically send Short Message Service (SMS) messages from a phone-enabled Mobile target to other phone-enabled devices. Also, you can receive notification of and read incoming SMS messages. The Mobile Module stores the incoming messages in LVSMSClient.dat, which is located in the \Program Files\National Instruments\labview\SMS directory on the target.

SMS functionality is supported for the following phone-enabled Mobile devices:

  • Pocket PC devices running Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PC Phone Edition or later

To use SMS, you must install and run the Pocket PC LabVIEW SMS Client on the Mobile target.

The phone-enabled Mobile device must be connected to a cellular network before it can send or receive SMS messages. Phones on the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) network can only send messages to other phones on the GSM network. Phones on the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) network can only send messages to other phones on the CDMA network.
