Measurement Studio assemblies reference Microsoft assemblies that are not in the .NET Framework 4 Client Profile. Because of these Microsoft assembly references, Measurement Studio assemblies do not work with projects that have the target framework set to .NET Framework 4 Client Profile.

By default, Visual Studio 2010 sets the target framework to .NET Framework 4 Client Profile. If you create a new Visual Studio project that references Measurement Studio assemblies, or you manually update a Measurement Studio project to target the .NET Framework 4 Client Profile, you receive the following compile-time warning: "The referenced assembly could not be resolved because it has a dependency on an assembly which is not in the currently targeted framework. Please remove references to assemblies not in the targeted framework or consider retargeting your project."

To work around this issue, you must update the target framework to .NET Framework 4. The following section includes instructions on changing the target framework setting for your project in Visual Basic .NET and Visual C#.

Changing Your Project Target Framework Setting

Visual Basic .NET

  1. Select View»Solution Explorer.
  2. Right-click on your project and select Properties.
  3. In the Project Properties tab, select Compile.
  4. Select Advanced Compile Options.
  5. In the Advanced Compiler Settings dialog box, select .NET Framework 4 in the Target framework drop-down list. Click OK.

Visual C#

  1. Select View»Solution Explorer.
  2. Right-click on your project and select Properties.
  3. In the Project Properties tab, select Application.
  4. Select .NET Framework 4 in the Target framework drop-down list.
