Click the Capture Settings image on the Home tab to display this dialog box. Use this dialog box to configure the specific events of a type you want the Desktop Execution Trace Toolkit to trace when you execute a trace session.

If you deselect an event type in the left pane, the toolkit does not trace any events of that type when you execute a trace session. You can click the arrow below Capture Settings to display a pull-down menu, which you can use to quickly deselect event types.

Note  The Capture Settings dialog box automatically updates for the configurations you specify in the Capture Settings pull-down menu.

This dialog box includes the following components:

  • Type List—Lists the types of events that the toolkit captures from LabVIEW. Select an item from this list to display a corresponding page with more specific events.
    • Errors—Configures capture settings for unhandled error events. Use this option to discover potential problems that may impact the performance of the application under trace.
    • Event Structures—Configures capture settings for events that LabVIEW Event structures generate. The toolkit does not select the Timeout event of this type by default.
    • Memory Allocations—Configures capture settings for events that LabVIEW generates when a VI allocates memory, frees the previously allocated memory, or changes memory size. Use this option to find memory leaks, especially when the application under trace gets slower or eventually exits unexpectedly. This checkbox does not contain a checkmark by default.
    • Queues and Notifiers—Configures capture settings for queue and notifier events. The Queue Operations functions and the Notifier Operations functions in LabVIEW return those events.
    • Reference Leaks—Configures capture settings for reference leak events. Reference leaks can be trivial at first, but overtime they could cause poor performance or a non-responsive computer.
    • User Events—Configures capture settings for events that LabVIEW generates when a user registers events dynamically or creates user events. The Events functions in LabVIEW return those events.
    • User-Defined Trace Events—Configures capture settings for user-defined events. Use the Generate User-Defined Trace Event function in LabVIEW to generate user-defined events.
    • VI Execution—Configures capture settings for execution events that LabVIEW generates when a VI runs.
    • VIs—Configures capture settings for events based on the VI that generates the events.
  • Select All Events—Selects all the event types in the type list to capture from LabVIEW. If you select all the event types, this button changes to Deselect All Events. Click Deselect All Events to remove checkmarks from all the event types, except the VIs type.
  • Save—Displays a Save As dialog box from which you can specify a location to save the capture settings as a configuration settings (.ini) file. Use a text editor to open this file format.
  • Load—Displays an Open dialog box from which you can select an existing configuration file to load.
