Location:In the navigation bar at the top of the page, click Configuration to navigate to the Asset Configuration page.

This page allows you to add, organize, and configure assets that you can then map to device channels.

Note  <Ctrl> or <Shift>-click assets in the asset tree to perform actions on multiple assets at one time.

What do you want to do?

Task Action
Add one or more assets to the asset tree.
  • Add an asset at the top level—Click Clear Selections so that nothing is highlighted in the asset tree. Click Add to display the New Node dialog box. In this dialog box you can specify the type, name, and number of assets you want to create.
  • Add an asset as a child—Click on the asset you want to be the parent and click Add. You can also add child assets by right-clicking the parent asset and selecting Add child nodes.
  • Add an asset as a parent—Right-click the asset you want to add a parent for and select Insert new parent.
Remove one or more assets from the asset tree.
  • Remove an asset and all its descendants—Click on the asset you want to delete, click Remove, and then click OK when prompted. You can also remove assets by right-clicking the parent asset and selecting Remove with descendants.
  • Remove an asset but leave its descendants—Right-click the parent asset and select Remove and promote descendants.
Note  When you remove an asset from the asset tree, NI InsightCM also deletes all data acquired for that asset.
Check that one or more assets are configured correctly. Click the asset(s) you want to check and click Validate to return specific messages about what is causing the asset configuration to be invalid.
Highlight all assets that are:
  • Invalid
  • Not mapped
  • Disabled
Select the appropriate options in the listbox above the asset tree.

Move assets to another location in the asset tree. Right-click an asset and select Move to display the Select Move Destination Location dialog box. Select the location you want to move the asset and its descendants to.
Note  Select Root to move the asset to the top level.
Copy assets to another location in the asset tree. Right-click an asset and select Copy to display the Select Copy Destination Location dialog box. Select the location you want to copy the asset and its descendants to.
Note  Select Root to copy the asset to the top level.
Save a section of the asset tree as a template. To save the configuration of an asset and all its descendants as a template for reuse in another part of the asset tree, right-click an asset and select Save as template and complete the New Template dialog box. The new template appears in the Templates section of the New Asset dialog box. You can also manage your saved templates in the Asset Templates dialog box, accessible by clicking the Action menu and selecting Manage Templates.

Manage properties for all assets of a specific type. Click the Action menu and select Edit Node Definitions.
Configure a data source. Refer to Configuring a Data Source.
Edit properties for one or more assets. Select an asset from the asset tree and click the Properties tab on the right.
Configure operating states for an asset. Select an asset from the asset tree and click the Operating States tab on the right.
Note  This tab is available only on assets that support the operating states capability in their definition.
Specify what features InsightCM calculates for an asset. Select an asset from the asset tree and click the Features tab on the right.
Note  This tab is available only on assets that have default features associated with them in their definition.
Add alarm rules for an asset feature. Select an asset from the asset tree and click the Alarm Rules tab on the right.
Note  This tab is available only on assets that have default features associated with them in their definition.
Add notes and instructions about an asset. Select an asset from the asset tree and click the Description tab on the right.
Filter assets for batch configuration. Click the filter button above the asset tree, complete the Filter Asset Nodes dialog box, and click OK. <Ctrl>- or <Shift>-click assets in the list to the left to configure their shared properties.
