This tab maintains a list of all the NI InsightCM Server PI point mappings, which connect a tag in NI InsightCM Server to the name of a PI point in the OSIsoft PI System software. The NI InsightCM web application allows you to create and preview point mappings for every feature and spectral band assigned to every asset in the NI InsightCM web application.

What do you want to do?

Task Action
Add all available PI point mappings for a particular asset or group of assets. Click the Add button and select one or more assets in the Choose Assets dialog box. Click Apply to create point mappings for the selected asset or assets.
Note  You can only add PI point mappings for the child assets of assets with operating states.
See the latest value of a PI point or multiple points. Select one or more mappings, and then select Get PI Point Values from the Action menu . A value of Pt Created means the point exists on the PI Server, but NI InsightCM Server has not written a value to it.
Tip   You also can query the PI Server using the same syntax available in the Snapshot Tool within the PI SDK Utility software. Refer to Querying the PI Server Software for more information.
View all PI point values for a tag in a chart. Select a tag and click the Chart button.
Prevent NI InsightCM Server from writing values to PI points when you know the tag values are invalid. Select one or more mappings, and then click the Edit button. Remove the checkmark from the Enabled checkbox.
Export all the information on all the pages of the mappings table to a CSV file. Click the Action menu and select Export PI Mappings.
See details about PI points that each asset generates. Navigate to the Historian tab on the Dashboard page.
Filter assets by asset name, PI point name, and asset parent. Click the Filter button next to the Filter Assets textbox to display the Mapping Filter dialog box.

Adding Individual PI Point Mappings

Complete the following steps to add a PI point mapping:

  1. Click the Add button.
  2. In the Choose Assets dialog box that displays, select the asset that contains the tag for which you want to create a point mapping.
  3. Click the Preview button.
Note  You can add point mappings to multiple assets at a time. However, the preview option is available only when you have just one asset selected.
  4. In the Pi Tag Preview dialog box that displays, ensure that any tags for which you want to create a point mapping are checked.
Tip  New tags have an edit glyph . If you change a mapping pattern, the edit glyph also appears beside tags that the change affects.
  5. Click Apply.

Querying the PI Server Software

To query the PI Server software using the same syntax available in the Snapshot Tool within the PI SDK Utility software, select Query PI Points from the Action pull-down menu. Replace the default query string, tag='*', because it typically returns too much data and causes a timeout error. Refer to the PI SDK Utility Help for more information about query syntax.

Note  Queries are limited to 1,000 results.

Deleting PI Points

Complete the following steps to delete one or more PI points from the PI System software:

  1. Select one or more mappings whose points you want to delete.
  2. Select Get PI Point Values from the Action menu .
  3. Click the Delete PI Point button.

Viewing PI Point Data on the Data Viewer Page

NI InsightCM includes a historian asset type, which allows you to map a PI point to an asset so that the NI InsightCM web application shows data from the PI database on the Data Viewer page.

Complete the following steps to assign a PI point to an asset:

  1. Navigate to the Asset Configuration page using the navigation bar.
  2. Click the Add button and locate the historian asset type in the Sensors»Static section of the resulting dialog box.
  3. Give the asset a unique name to indicate the PI point you want to map it to and click OK.
  4. In the PI Point Name field on the Properties tab, enter the name of the PI point as it appears on the Point Mappings tab on the Historian page.
  5. Navigate to the Data Viewer page and select the asset in the asset tree to load PI point data in the trend viewer.
